On this Christmas Eve, I’ve been thinking about the birth and life of Jesus.

He came with a clear purpose, and that purpose required boundaries.

Not to protect His comfort, but to protect His calling.

He withdrew.
He disappointed people.
He said “no” (even to good ideas), so He could say yes to what the Father asked of Him.

I’m learning that boundaries aren’t about pushing people away. They’re about pushing us closer to what God is doing in and through us.

Maybe our blessings really are attached to our boundaries.

I spent a lot of years letting other people decide

I spent a lot of years letting other people decide who I was allowed to be.

The irony? My first name, Danielle—derived from Daniel—literally means God is my judge. And yet, somehow, I made people my jury.

So here I am, on this journey, learning to trust God more than people’s approval.

I may not know what God has for me, but I know where He has me.

First, I am His child.
Second, I am my husband’s wife.
Third, I am my children’s mother.

If stewarding these things well is the only thing I ever achieve, that is enough.‭

One thing I learned about Jesus is that He had no problem allowing people to think what they wanted to think. He didn’t chase understanding or manage people’s perceptions of Him. You either believe He is who He said He is, or you don’t.

On this Christmas Eve, I’ve been thinking about the birth and life of Jesus.

He came with a clear purpose, and that purpose required boundaries.
